What Technerd is
and why it exists
Written at founding. These are the values, commitments, and promises that Technerd is built on — and held to.

01 — Mission
What we are here to do
Technerd exists to make practical, hands-on knowledge freely accessible to anyone who wants it — welders, electricians, gardeners, carpenters, farmers, coders, mechanics, and everyone who learns by doing.
We believe the most valuable knowledge in the world is held by people who have actually done the work — and that this knowledge is too often locked inside expensive courses, buried in forums, or simply never written down at all.
Our mission is to give that knowledge a home. A free one. A good one. One that treats people like adults who can decide what information they need.
02 — Vision
What we’re building toward
We are building toward a world where no one has to pay to learn a trade. Where a first-year welder in rural Texas gets the same quality of guidance as someone training at a union shop. Where a first-time homeowner can get a real answer to an electrical question without hiring a consultant just to find out whether the job is DIY-safe.
That world doesn’t require AI or venture capital or viral growth. It requires a community of people who know things and are willing to share them — and a platform honest enough to get out of the way.
03 — The Problem We’re Solving
Why this needed to be built
The trades have a knowledge problem. Not a shortage of expertise — there are millions of skilled tradespeople. The shortage is in accessible, organized, trustworthy answers.
Reddit gets you close, but threads are scattered and unverified. YouTube is great for visual learning but terrible for specific questions. Trade forums are invaluable but fragmented and often unfriendly to beginners. Paid courses charge $200 to teach you what a 30-year welder could tell you in 10 minutes for free.
Technerd is the answer to that problem: one community, organized by trade, where verified experts answer real questions and the knowledge is searchable, permanent, and free.
04 — Our Community
Who Technerd is for
Technerd is for anyone who makes, fixes, grows, or builds things. That’s a wide net and it’s intentional.
We have 10 starting communities — welding, electrical, gardening, farming, carpentry, automotive, coding, health, mathematics, and general trades — but the underlying principle is the same in all of them: people who know things helping people who want to learn them.
Experts are members who have demonstrated real knowledge through their answers. They earn their badge from the community — not from a certification or a fee. Anyone can become an Expert. Anyone can ask a question. No one is made to feel like their question is too basic or their experience too limited.
05 — How We Stay Free
The business model, plainly stated
Technerd stays free through three honest revenue streams, none of which involve selling user data or hiding good content behind paywalls:
- 📡Clearly labeled sponsored groups Brands in relevant industries can sponsor a community group ($149–$399/month). Their presence is clearly labeled. They do not control editorial content.
- 💛Optional donations to experts Members who find an expert’s help genuinely valuable can choose to send them a donation. Technerd takes no cut. This is entirely voluntary.
- 📊Google AdSense Contextual display advertising served by Google in designated placements. Clearly distinguished from community content at all times.
That’s it. No premium tier. No data brokering. No algorithm designed to maximize time-on-site at the expense of your wellbeing.
06 — Our Commitments
What we commit to
- 🆓Free forever Technerd will never charge members to access community content. No paywalls. No subscription tiers. No “premium” answers.
- 🔒Never sell data We do not sell, rent, or broker personal information. We will not do so in the future regardless of ownership changes (which we will announce 30 days in advance).
- 📣Transparent advertising Every sponsored element is clearly labeled. We will never disguise advertising as organic community content.
- 🛡️Safe community We enforce our Community Guidelines consistently and fairly. Moderation decisions can be appealed via safety@technerd.com.
- 🌍Legal compliance We operate in compliance with US law, including OFAC sanctions regulations. Access is restricted accordingly.
- ✏️Honest communication When things go wrong — outages, data issues, policy changes — we communicate clearly and quickly. No spin.
07 — The Promise
What you can hold us to
Our promise to members
If you join Technerd and contribute your knowledge — your time, your expertise, the lessons you learned the hard way — we will protect that contribution. We will not sell it. We will not lock it away. We will not replace it with AI-generated content. We will not let advertisers pay to have their message disguised as your advice.
Your knowledge belongs to you. We just give it a home.
